Pocket Earth PRO App Reviews

Great app!

Been looking for an app offering maps for use offline for a long time. (Cell service isnt always available around here.) This one really hit the nail on the head. Top notch.

Must-Have for Pod People

Ive used this for over a year, and Im not really sure how I ever got by without it. Ive used paper maps since I learned to read, and a GPS satnav for the last seven or eight years, but now I depend on PocketEarth more than anything. Its better than paper maps because theyre all right there, no road atlas needed. Its better then the GPS satnav because I can easily look at the whole area around, not just my path. And I just bought the new topo maps -- sure, only 50-foot contours, but the whole pack was cheaper than the single paper quadrangle (10-foot contours) that I bought last week, and Im not doing surveying with it, just getting an idea of the landforms ahead of me when Im on foot. I have an external GPS, as this is an iPod Touch which lacks the internal GPS of the iPhone. (without that, Location Services makes its best guess) so with that and the offline map capability of PocketEarth I just load up the maps for the area Im going to need when I have WiFi and then its like a tiny road/trail atlas in my pocket. I still use my car GPS for directions if Im going to a specific destination, because its optimized for that (and louder) but PocketEarth is my pocket map book; I havent bought a new road atlas since I got it. I tested several map apps before I chose PocketEarth and its by far the best. Id rate it 6 stars if I could. Dont tell them this, but its worth 10 times what they charge. This is seriously a must-have if you use an iPod Touch because of the offline capability if for no other reason (and there are plenty of other reasons). Plus, even if you have a cellular-capable device there are always places that have no cell service. In summary: GET THIS APP!

Best iOS Offline Maps!

I travel all over Europe and Asia for work. I have tried every iOS offline map I can find. This is the smoothest, easiest to use one out there. Maps work well and highlight public transit routes which is great in unfamiliar cities. Please keep up the great work, love the app!!

Really great

Worked wonderfully out in the boonies. Had no data but still could find my way around.

Great offline with iPad

I live in rural Pennsylvania and I can use this app driving through the country with NO cell data and still get enough location info to navigate. Also has worked on a tour bus and in a car down in Fort Lauderdale. Of course you have to first download area maps.

Needs an iPad Pro update

As the title stated. Otherwise a fine app.

Brilliant

Who thought! An app that can get you around without being online. Like a paper map but without having to carry a different map for each place you may go.

So much wrong information

I live off the coast of Washington state and for this area this map app is remarkably bad. At least 60% of the islands in this area are incorrectly named. If this app is as innaccurate elsewhere I wouldnt trust it. Its too bad - it seemed like a good idea.

Excellent App

Worked out very well for our trip up the west coast. Maps and routes were like we would get with AAA Trip Tiks. The topo maps are very useful, especially in mountainous regions. I am looking forward to using them on our hikes. When we had no phone service this app kept going strong while others failed. Voice commands and maps were always available. The turn-by-turn voice direction is excellent. I prefer this to the GPS in my Lexus with the exception that it directs the driver to refer to the map when off course (to eat, to gas, etc) rather than just finding an alternate route, which it eventually will do when far enough off course. This already incorporated more than I expected and I continue to discover more functionality as I use it. Excellent work. I will continue to use it, especially for making travel plans.

Best

Best and easier off line charts. I highly recommend it

Great App!

I dont normally write reviews, but must for this app. Through a tour of Cambodia and Thailand, Pocket Earth tracked my route and provided interesting insights to the various attractions along the way; didnt miss a beat. Even when I had no cellular service, everything worked like a charm. While youre connected to Wi-Fi, pre-load the guides to your destination countries and enjoy it the whole time.

Perfect!

Great App, very detailed, very easy to use!

Best map app ever

Ive been using Pocket Earth since 2012, when I studied abroad in Spain. The dowloadability is awesome (especially when you dont have service on your phone!) but Id say the best thing is being able to save and share pins. Im a major rock climbing addict, and since most climbing areas arent on roads, being able to leave a pin at a random place in the woods is super helpful. I dont know the difference between the free version as the paid version, but this app is so awesome that I would be OK donating the cost of the paid version, even if the free version were exactly the same as the paid one. Good work Pocket Earth team!

Its About the Offline

Having a cheapskate - 1gig - data plan, I jumped at the opportunity to have offline maps with me when I travel. PEP...has not let me down. It gets even better when I plan ahead and create pins, AND categorize my pins in folders. Frankly, the "Search" could be better, so I search in "WeAreEvil" Maps (ahem...), copy the address, and paste it in the PEP search fields. I am glad I got Pocket Earth!

Great

Im an airline pilot so travel all over the world, Ive used a few off line maps, this is the best so far.

No Data Connection Required

Absolute best offline map and navigation app.

Great great app

I love this app. When there is no cell connection, this app is awesome!!!! Now, lets have it CarPlay compatible or enabled. However you wanna put it

Perfect travel app

So easy to use. Excellent for turn-by-turn driving as well as walking small side streets. Never get lost, as you have geolocation. And all this off-line so no cellular charges (just do you map downloads or mark points of interest when WiFi is available. Absolutely indispensible!

Great app for travel!

I always wanted an offline map when in abroad. this is a great app, with extremely high definition and reliable data. I used it on my trip to China, and it worked great. It also has a nice position tracking and it was also useful to document my trip. Its great!

My favorite iPhone and iPad app - period

Pocket Earth runs incredibly fast and smoothly. Full download capability, with tremendous detail. Bike layer and hiking trail layer are fantastic differentiators, but only a small sample of what this app delivers. Includes ski area details, for instance, so I can use this to see exactly where I am at a ski resort, in relation to the chairlifts, buildings and such - even with no data connection. The interface is very efficient, but a little acclimation is needed to make use of all of the very extensive features. Nonetheless, its quite intuitive. Excellent and extensive customization options. Can download any part of the earth, including full Wikipedia details. Theres no charge for map downloads. If I could only have one mapping/GPS app, Id easily pick this. Probably not for people who want super ease-of-use, but far more capable than other mapping apps. Many people have a single favorite app, that they are just crazy-happy with. For me, this is that app.
